2010/04/26

IPOH: The National hockey team, preparing for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup next month, will play two test matches against India and South Korea.

The Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) vice president Datuk Abdul Rahim Mat Ariff said Malaysia would play four times Sultan Azlan Shah Cup winner, India on May 3 and South Korea the next day.

"The friendly matches are part of the National team's preparations for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup to be held in Ipoh from May 6-16," he told reporters after launching an advertisement campaign for the tournament on Sri Maju Express buses at the Ipoh Municipal Council here today.

He added that the National team was ready to face their opponents and go one better than the two runner-up finishes in 2007 and 2009.

Seven countries, namely South Korea, Egypt, China, India, Pakistan, Australia and Malaysia have confirmed their participation for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup this year, he said.

Abdul Rahim hoped by placing advertisements on 22 express buses that ply routes nationwide, including Singapore, would help create awareness of the tournament.
