KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- The BN supreme council, the party's highest decision-making body, today voiced support for the RM7 billion economic stimulus package announced by the government early last month.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the government hoped to revitalise the domestic economy with the stimulus package unveiled by his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Parliament on Nov 4.
The pre-emptive measures, announced by Najib, who is also Finance Minister, are to further strengthen the resilient national economy from the bleak global economy, said Abdullah, who is also Umno president, after chairing the 35-member supreme council meeting.
Abdullah said the stimulus package was crucial to insulate the economy and sustain national economic growth.
Among measures taken are spending a staggering RM1.2 billion to build low-and medium-cost houses for low-income earners and living quarters for armed forces personnel.
