KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 - Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS) women's chief Nuridah Salleh is solid in her support in the aid of one of the Internal Security Act (ISA) detainees "silently" nabbed early last month.
She was part of the Abolish ISA Movement(GMI) delegation headed by working committee chairman Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh that lodged a complaint with the consular of Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia, regarding the detention of one of its citizens under the draconian act.
She had earlier last week condemned the recent detention of Agus Salim, an Indonesian citizen, along with two others in a separate incidents, despite the move by newly minted premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak early this month to release 13 ISA detainees.
Nuridah who is also GMI working committee member had also accompanied GMI members to bring the matter to the attention of Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) late last week.
She pointed out that the silent detention of the three had proven Najib's move, purportedly out of concerns for human rights, was just a political "gimmick" and that the ISA which allowed for indefinite detention without trial, has always been used by the ruling coalition as a "weapon" to silent dissent.
More than six years incarceration
The three detained are Agus Salim, Abdul Martin Anol Rahmat and Johar Hassan. Agus Salim, 32, is an Indonesian who worked as a cook at a Tom Yam restaurant in Larkin, Johor.
He was said to be detained on March 5 and escorted away by five police cars led by ASP Zaini Akhir from Bukit Aman police headquarters.
Abdul Martin Anol Rahmat, 60, was detained in Ulu Tiram on the morning of April 1 for his alleged involvement in Jemaah Islamiyyah (JI). The self-employed man was escorted away by 12 policemen.
However, no information on Johar Hassan�s age, background and detention details was available, although he was alleged to have been detained sometime between March and April.
The detention of all three persons was also not revealed by the police or Home Ministry to any media organisation.
Also present today when the complaint was lodged at the embassy, was ISA detainee wife Norlaila Othman. Her husband Mat Sah Mat Satray, is one of several ISA detainees who had been incarcerated for more than six years. - ES _
