“Exult not, for God loveth not those who exult (in riches).” (28:76)
“Swell not thy cheek (for pride) at men, nor walk in insolence through the earth; for God loveth not any arrogant boaster.” (31:18)
“Eat of what is on earth, lawful and good; and do not follow the footsteps of the Satan, for he is to you an avowed enemy.” (2:168)
“[God] loves those who keep themselves pure and clean.” (2:222)
“[Do not follow] the lust (of thy heart), for it will mislead thee from the Path of God.” (38:26)
These are some of the versus from the Holy Book of Quran.
However, recent statements made by PAS leaders, i.e. the Mentris Besar of Perak and Kedah on the proposed purchase of Toyota Camry cars for official use by the Perak state exco members did not speak well for an Islamic party (PAS) that preaches good Islamic values and prudent management.
What more when it involves public funds.
For a party and someone who claimed to defend and protect the sanctity of Islam, the statements by the two Mentris Besar certainly spoke volume of their arrogance and selfishness.
“[Do not] expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)!” (74:6)
“Exult not, for God loveth not those who exult (in riches).” (28:76)
Despite mounting critisms from the public not to waste the people’s money, the Perak Mentri Besar Mohamad Nizar Jamaludin, who was formerly the GM of Komtar Management, spoke arrogantly that he would not withdraw his decision to buy the 2.4 Toyota Camrys priced at RM167,000 each for his exco.
His statement was even echoed by his Kedah counterpart Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak who said that the Kedah Government would also follow Perak in buying the models for similar use.
For someone who never forgets to wear a skullcap and jubah (robe) like Wan Azizan or Mohamed Nizar, their actions certainly do not fit the Islamic outfit they are wearing. That's PAS.
